Miner, 28, drowns while bathing in Potaro River

The body of a 28-year-old Venezuelan miner was yesterday recovered at around 17:50 hrs in the Potaro River after he went under while bathing in the Potaro River, Region Eight on Sunday morning.

David Singh was out with his wife Verna Kanichio and went to bathe in the creek. According to the police the man’s wife said they both went bathe at the river bank and she went into the water and left Singh sitting on a bucket. But he later went into the water.

It was while she was bathing she heard the man shout and when she investigated she saw the man being swept away. She swam behind him and attempted to save him but had to let him go as he was pulling her under the water. Another villager attempted to assist as the woman called for him but Singh eventually went under. His body was later recovered and buried by investigating police ranks to be later exhumed for a post mortem examination.
