Sixteen-year-old motorcyclist dies in crash at Onverwagt

A Hopetown, West Coast Berbice family is now mourning the loss of their 16-year-old child after he was involved in a motorcycle crash on the public road at Onverwagt, West Coast Berbice on Sunday night.

Dead is Jahiem Gangoo, 16, of Hopetown Village, West Coast Berbice.

According to information gathered, the incident, which occurred around 8 pm, involved motor car PAG 906 which was being driven by Sherwin Goring and motorcycle CL 7060 which was being driven by Gangoo with pillion rider Elijah Rigby, 14, also of Hopetown Village, West Coast Berbice.

The police said they were told that the motorcycle was proceeding along the public road at Onverwagt, when the rider allegedly made a sudden turn across the road into the path of the car. As a result, the left front side of the car collided with the right side of the motorcycle causing the motorcyclist and pillion rider to fall onto the road surface. They sustained injuries to their bodies.

They were picked up and taken to the Fort Wellington Public Hospital where Gangoo was pronounced dead on arrival while Rigby was treated for his injuries and discharged.
