A 23-year-old Berbice River man is now dead after he was fatally stabbed on Monday leaving his family seeking justice.

Dead is Francis Suhku, a graduate in small mechanics of Sandhills, Upper Berbice River. The incident occurred at Sandhills, Upper Berbice River on Monday after 5 pm.

Based on information gathered, Sukhu and the suspect were liming with some friends at a shop imbibing alcohol when an argument suddenly arose, during which the suspect was reportedly slapped. The suspect then left and returned reportedly armed with scissors which he used to deal Sukhu five stab wounds about his body resulting in him collapsing to the ground.

Sukhu was then rushed to a medic who discovered that there was no pulse after which he was subsequently taken to the Linden Hospital Complex where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Sukhu’s mother, Tabitha Benjamin of Fort Ordnance, East Canje Berbice, yesterday told Stabroek News that she received news on Monday evening that her son had died. She said initially she thought he had been involved in a motor vehicular  accident of some kind, however, she was later informed that her son had been stabbed.

She said her son’s body was taken to Linden and she along with other relatives travelled there on Monday evening and she then learned that her son had sustained five stab wounds.

Based on what was told to her, she said, her son was allegedly fatally stabbed by a cousin who is currently on the run. “To my knowledge, four years ago, the same boy [who] stab my son, his uncle get murdered. Seems to me like is some revenge. This is a revenge,” she stated.

Benjamin explained that her family hails from Sandhills, but had relocated first to New Amsterdam and then Fort Ordnance. Her son had returned to Sandhills and had been staying with her dad and his (Sukhu) cousin.

“I am calling for justice from the police. I told them things happen in Berbice River, it gone under the table, but not this. I will go to the end of the earth for it. I won’t leave this,” she vowed.

She said her son had been an extremely jovial person.
