Caribbean Senior Squash Championships

– Khalil/Ince advance to Men’s Doubles semifinals

Mary Fung-A-Fat lost to Barbadian Margot Prow in the final of the Women’s Open when the individual segment of the Caribbean Senior Squash Championships concluded yesterday at the Georgetown Club facility.

Fung-A-Fat lost in straight sets. Prow raced to a 1-0 advantage after Fung-A-Fat lost the first set 6-11. Fung-A-Fat then conceded a 0-2 deficit as she lost the second stanza 2-11. The result was then sealed as Prow won the third set 11-7.

Meanwhile, Ashley Khalil also went down to Barbadian Amanda Haywood 3-2 in the Women’s Open third-place playoff. Haywood took the initial lead as she prevailed 11-9 in the first set. However, Khalil equalised in the second set as they triumphed by the identical score.

Barbados also won the Men’s Open crown after Khamal Cumberbatch defeated Julian Jervis (KY) 13-11, 11-9, 11-5.

Haywood took the lead at 2-1 following a 13-11 effort in the third stanza. A fifth set was then required to decide the contest, as Khalil won 11-9. Nevertheless, Haywood secured the win with an 11-6 score in the final set.

Meanwhile, Guyana secured a place in the semifinal round of the Men’s Doubles section as the pair of Sam Ince-Carvahal/Jason-Ray Khalil (Guyana) defeated Seth Thong/Leonel Sorrillo (T&T) 11-6, 11-7.

The veteran category commences today.
