The Guyana Police Force has reported that Tuesday during separate operations in Bartica, 108 grammes of cannabis was found and one person is in custody while another is on the run.

Regarding the first operation, police ranks from Regional Division Number Seven searched the business premises of a 41-year-old businesswoman of 7th Avenue, Bartica, Essequibo River.

Upon arrival at the business place, police observed Travis Dover, who was on the premises at the time, actively parcelling what was suspected to be cannabis leaves, seeds, and stems into small transparent zip-lock bags. A total of 39 packets was confiscated in the presence of the suspect.

Following the discovery, a thorough search of the premises was conducted, but no additional illegal substances were found. The suspect, Travis Dover, was informed of the offence, cautioned, and placed under arrest. He was subsequently taken to the Bartica Police Station, where the cannabis was weighed in his presence, and totalled 34 grammes. Dover remains in custody at the Bartica Police Station as investigations continue.

Meanwhile, in another police operation in Bartica yesterday, at about 15:30 hours, two ranks were on foot patrol at the Bartica Arcade when one of the ranks observed an individual known as Kenny Spencer, who operates a jewellery shop at the arcade. The rank saw Spencer go into an alleyway and pull a transparent plastic bag from a garbage heap, which he (the rank) suspected to contain cannabis. The rank approached Spencer, who, upon seeing the policeman, threw away the plastic bag and ran off, making good his escape.

The rank retrieved the transparent plastic bag and discovered that it contained 35 small zip lock packets of seeds, leaves, and stems suspected to be cannabis. It was taken to Bartica Police Station and when weighed, amounted to 74 grammes.

Efforts are underway to apprehend Spencer as investigations continue.
