‘Bend it Like Beckham’ Futsal
Bent Street, North East La Penitence, and North Ruimveldt advanced to the quarterfinal segment following contrasting wins in the round of 16, when the inaugural edition of the ‘Bend it Like Beckham’ Futsal Championship resumed last night at the National Gymnasium on Mandela Avenue.
Bent Street defeated Mocha 5-2. Similarly, North East La Penitence downed Alexander Village 3-1. Meanwhile, North Ruimveldt stunned the Stabroek Ballers 6-5 on sudden death penalty kicks, while Team Cruel edged California Square 3-1 on penalty kicks.
Up to press time, the other matches in the round of 16 segment were underway. The winner of the event will pocket $1,000,000 and the championship trophy, while the second, third, and fourth-place finishers will receive $500,000, $300,000, and $200,000, respectively, and the corresponding accolade.
