Following the success of the female drag racing class, the Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club (GMR&SC) will introduce the women’s circuit racing division at the Caribbean Clash of Champions on November 9th-10th at the South Dakota Circuit.
This was disclosed in a release from the entity. According to the correspondence, “The female drag racing class has been a groundbreaking addition to the GMR&SC’s events, attracting several talented female drivers who have competed fiercely alongside their male counterparts. A historic moment was achieved at the last drag race when Malicia Lawrence became the first female driver to win a time bracket, clinching the victory in the 14-second class. This milestone victory has inspired the GMR&SC to promote women in motorsport further.”
The release stated that the female circuit programme will serve as an introductory mechanism for interested participants, noting that all drivers must meet the requisite safety requirements, including the installation of a roll cage, working fire extinguishers, and a four-point harness inside their vehicle.
The release added that the class will be open to manual and automatic vehicles as well as turbocharged and non-turbocharged cars.
Luis Kumar, GMR&SC executive member, said, “This new female class is a significant step forward in our commitment to inclusivity and the growth of motorsport in Guyana”, adding, “We are excited to see the enthusiasm and talent these women bring to the track, and we believe the time is right to provide them with more opportunities to compete at higher levels.”
