The Barbados Tridents defeated the Guyana Amazon Warriors by one wicket in a last over thriller when the Women’s Caribbean Premier League commenced yesterday at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy, Tarouba, Trinidad and Tobago.

The contest was decided in the final over, as Hayley Matthews, needing two runs off of as many deliveries, scampered to two singles to seal the climactic victory. Matthews top scored with 61 in pursuit of Guyana’s total of 118/9. Qiana Joseph was the next best scorer with 24, with extras occupying the third spot with 12.

Shabnim Ismail snared 4-16. Stefanie Taylor was the main scorer for the Amazon Warriors during their innings with 38, while contributions came from Shemaine Campbelle, Erin Burns, and extras in the form of 16, 15, and 14 runs, respectively. Aaliyah Alleyne was the pick of the Barbadian bowlers with 3-21.
