At a ceremony held at the Ministry of Sport and Community Development’s head office recently, it was disclosed that almost $1.2 million in funding would be provided to support the advancement of athletes, national sporting organisations, and community groups.
A total of 25 recipients received grants through the Ministry’s Sport Grant for Organisations and Individuals, as well as the Community Action for Revival and Empowerment (C.A.R.E) grant.
This included 10 national sporting organisations, one athlete, and 14 community groups, with the total funding amounting to $1,179,930.00.
The disbursement of these grants underscores the government of Trinidad and Tobago’s ongoing commitment to fostering excellence in sports at all levels and the sustainable development of communities.
This fiscal year alone has seen the distribution of over $19 million in support of 238 grants in the categories of Elite Athletes, Individuals in Sport, National Governing Bodies, National Sporting Organisations, Community Action for Revival and Empowerment, and the National Incentives and Rewards Framework.
The Ministry is actively engaged in both community and national-level sports development, with initiatives such as the ‘I Choose Sport’ campaign in schools and communities nationwide, the Prime Minister’s Best Village Trophy Competition, and Community Education Programmes.
