In a proactive effort to promote fire safety and preparedness, the Linden and La Grange Fire Stations yesterday hosted Fire Safety Camps, attracting a massive turnout of children.

The camps aimed to educate young participants on the importance of fire safety through a series of interactive and engaging activities, a Guyana Fire Service press release said. Throughout the day, the children learned vital fire prevention techniques, how to safely evacuate in case of a fire, essential fire safety dos and don’ts, and the basics of using fire fighting equipment, it added.

According to the release, the high attendance of 147 children and positive feedback from participants highlighted the success of the camp and the dedication of the Linden Fire Station in promoting fire safety education among the youths.

“By actively engaging with residents through educational lectures, hands-on demonstrations, and community events, we aim to equip individuals with the knowledge and skills necessary to prevent fires and respond effectively in emergencies,” the release said.

The approach was outlined as crucial in reducing fire-related incidents and ensuring the safety and well-being of our country. The Guyana Fire Service stated that the camps aimed not only to inform but also to inspire the next generation to take an active role in fire prevention and safety, ensuring that their communities remain vigilant and prepared.

At La Grange, the camp was organised by Judy Hung of the Civil Defence Commission and the Best/Klien Group. During the event, they delivered lectures to students and parents on effective fire prevention strategies, the release said.

The camp was hosted at the residence of Vishnu and Sarrika, according to the release, with the aim of enhancing fire safety and reducing the risk of fire-related incidents in the community.
