The decomposed body of a Corentyne pensioner who suffered from epilepsy and mental illness was on Monday afternoon discovered in his house at Number 53 Village, Corentyne.
Oscar Angel, 65, of Lot 137 Number 53 Village, Corentyne Berbice, reportedly died sometime between 17th August, 2024 and 21st August, 2024.
According to information gathered, on Monday afternoon residents realised that there was a foul odour emanating from the man’s house after which the discovery was made and the police informed.
Reshma Persaud, 28, a housewife, who resides next door to Angel reported that she noticed an odour coming from his house and decided to check on him and found his heavily decomposed body on a mattress.
She raised an alarm and the police were summoned. The body was examined for marks of violence but no determination of this could be made due to the state of the body.
Angel’s aunt, Aulstine Hawker, 71, of Lot 78 Section B Number 53 Village, Corentyne reportedly told police that the deceased had suffered from epilepsy for a number of years and had a mental disorder.
Hawker said that she last saw him at the Number 53 Complex Ground on Saturday around 1 pm.
Angel’s body was subsequently taken to Anthony’s Funeral home, where it awaits a postmortem examination. According to the police, no foul play is suspected.
