Yesterday marked the conclusion of the 13th edition of the Republic Bank RightStart Pan Minors Music Literacy Programme, celebrating the achievements of young steel pan players in Guyana.
At a closing ceremony held at the Umana Yana yesterday Republic Bank’s Denise Hobbs, General Manager, Operations, indicated that the annual programme, was aimed at empowering youth through music, targeted 175 students from Regions 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, and 10, focusing on enhancing their steel pan skills and musical literacy. The programme, which commenced on August 12, aimed to improve beginners’ playing abilities, music reading, and chord placement. Each participant, demonstrating remarkable dedication with a 95% attendance rate, received a certificate of participation.
Through some of the participating children, who spoke at intervals, Republic Bank emphasized its commitment to supporting initiatives that foster youth development and cultural appreciation. The programme, held in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, has significantly contributed to the resurgence of steel pan music across the nation, showcasing the talent of young musicians at competitions like the Republic Bank Mashramani Panorama Steel Band Competition, Hobb
Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport Charles Ramson expressed gratitude for the collaboration with Republic Bank. Ramson committed to the participants that they will be hired by the ministry to display their talent at important events. He emphasized that it is a commitment by the ministry that will contribute to their development, the release said.
