(Trinidad Guardian) Businessman Lawrence Duprey has died. Sources have confirmed this to Guardian Media. He was a former executive chairman of CL Financial and CLICO director.
Last year, the High Court ordered Duprey to reimburse more than US$139 million or approximately TT$1 billion ($947 million plus interest) to CL Financial (CLF) and CLICO for facilitating a deal to sell shares in what was previously called CLICO Energy to Proman Holdings (Barbados) in 2009.
Two years before, Justice Devindra Rampersad had found that Duprey acted “oppressively, unfairly and with prejudices” to the companies by selling the shares.
Duprey did not appeal the findings of the judge and was not represented during the trial.
