The curtains came down last night on the sixth season of the Guyana Football Federation’s (GFF) Elite League, as the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) saw out a 0-0 draw with arch rival Slingerz Football Club to stay undefeated and clinch their second successive top flight league title at the National Training Centre (NTC), Providence.
In front of a packed house, much like the first match between the two powerhouses, both sides remained wary of each other with the battle locked in midfield, neither side could find a way to penetrate the other’s defence and the game petered out into nothing more than a dogged draw.
However, GDF who stayed undefeated in this season, officially confirmed their KFC Elite League title, clinching it to establish their reputation as the best football club in Guyana.
Earlier in the night, the Guyana Police Force FC had no trouble in arresting Den Amstel 5-0 on the back of a helmet trick from forward Neron Barrow.
The lawmen came out in the first half full of energy which was reflected by their 3-0 advantage by halftime as Dorwin George got the party going in the 14th minute while Barrow netted twice (18’ and 41’).
Barrow sent the final nails in the coffin, nailing down Den Amstel with another pair of strikes in the second half, finding the back of the net in the 78th and 88th minutes respectively.
