Columbia, Essequibo Coast businessman, Haimant Chowtie aka `Two Leaf’ and his family were robbed over the weekend of cash and jewellery.
Three men went into his premises while he and his family were on a vacation.
The incident occurred between 3 pm on Saturday, August 24 and 1:50 am yesterday. Reports indicate that the businessman had a close relative checking on his property and around the time mentioned, his son checked the CCTV cameras for the home remotely and noticed that they were off. He alerted the relative who visited the home to find that it had been broken into and ransacked.
Among the items reportedly stolen were two diamond bands worth $5 million; eight watches valued $8.5 million; 4 gold chains worth $1 million; a diamond pendant and earrings worth $1.5 million; 12 perfumes worth $900,000; $10 million dollars and US $7,000.
It is believed that the Police were able to extract CCTV footage which showed three men committing the act. Two men are in custody at the moment. Investigations are continuing.
