Mighty Ruler, Avengers, Misdemeanor advance to quarterfinals

Tournament favourites Mighty Ruler, Avengers, and Misdemeanor secured berths to the quarterfinal segment following respective round-of-16 wins in the Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ Bartica edition on Friday night at the Community Centre tarmac. 

Witnessed by a mammoth crowd, Mighty Ruler sent a stern warning to the remaining teams with a 6-0 demolition of Falmouth.  

Ultimately, the combination of Oswin Joseph and Shaquille Hopkinson tallied respective braces, with the combination of Clint Kellman and Elcio Olivera scoring one goal apiece.

Debutante Misdemeanor confirmed their status as the proverbial dark-horse with a 3-0 whipping of Almanac Kings. The trio of Reon Hall, Floyd Jones, and Shem Stoby found the back of the net once, respectively. 

Avengers, formerly Rivers View, squeaked past Spanish Man 1-0. Defender Andel Norton recorded the only conversion of the contest in the second half following an overlapping play. 

In other results, Ruler Top Form dismantled New Modern 4-0, led by a race from Tyrese Gomes. Chipping in with one goal respectively were Joshua Jones and Antonio Ceres. 

Meanwhile, Bad Boys overcame a two-goal deficit to triumph 5-2 over Agatash. Kevin Reddy recorded a helmet-trick, while Don Lam netted once. On the other side, the sibling duo of Josh and Maziel Allen scored one goal each. 

On the other hand, Police disarmed Genahsyde 1-0. Also, Beachside downed Pluto 2-1 on penalty kicks following a 1-1 score at the end of regulation time. 

Action between Bad Boys and Agatash in the Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ Bartica edition

Jones Avenue squeaked past the Stelling Crew 1-0, led by a Kyle Timmerman strike in the first half. 

The winner of the event will pocket $300,000 and the championship trophy. They will also secure a place in the national tournament on September 6th. 

On the other hand, the second, third, and fourth-place finishers will receive $200,000, $100,000, and $75,000, respectively. 

Up to press time, the quarterfinal, semifinal, and eventual championship matches were underway.
