Six-year-old Jeremiah Gustave who was shot in his head at Charles Street, Charlestown, Georgetown on July 9 remains hospitalised in a critical condition.

Jeremiah’s mother, Keisha Gustave told Stabroek News yesterday that he was removed from the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Georgetown Hospital and transferred to the Paediatric Ward. Jeremiah’s condition remains critical and occasionally requires a ventilator. Keisha further said that he is unable to recognize her. In his critical state, he is only allowed to use strained liquids through a tube that has been inserted into his stomach.

“He can’t do anything for he self. He is using pampers and feeding from a tube. I must give God praise and thanks that he is still alive but his condition is still critical. I got to be strong for him”, she said.

Keisha expressed sadness about her son’s condition as the new school term approaches. Jeremiah would have been moving into Grade Two in September.

She said that while the next court date for the accused is approaching, the men are requesting bail and she does not think that they deserve to be free.

“The next court day is Thursday and they want bail but they don’t deserve bail. My son was healthy before all this”, she said.

The weapon was taken to the GPF’s ballistics department along with three bullet casings recovered at the scene. Wilburg was remanded to prison until August 19, 2024.

It is alleged that on the day in question, the minor was sitting on a chair in front of his 39-year-old mother’s food stall. Wilburg and Garnette, it is alleged, had a misunderstanding that escalated into the trading of bullets which resulted in the minor sustaining a gunshot wound to the head. The six-year-old was immediately picked up in an unconscious state and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital and admitted in a critical condition.
