Duck eggs case referred to DPP

Three months after the initial report in June, CEO of the Guyana Livestock and Development Authority (GLDA) Dwight Walrond confirmed to Stabroek News yesterday that the investigation into allegations of sabotage involving a large number of duck eggs at the  hatchery has been forwarded by the police to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

The controversy began when the APNU+AFC made claims on social media that 30,000 duck eggs had been damaged. In response, Madanlall Ramraj, Chairman of the GLDA, denied these claims in June 2024, describing the reported number as an exaggeration. “It was not 30,000 eggs that were damaged,” Ramraj stated. “We are currently preparing a detailed report to clarify the actual situation”, he said.

The incident took place during Walrond’s brief absence, as he was away on government business for three days.
