Charity labourer, 19, gets 18 months for ganja

Ovid Akeem Williams, a 19-year-old labourer of Charity Back Street, Essequibo Coast, was  on Monday jailed for 18 months over the possession of ganja.

Williams was arrested by police on 9th May 2024 at Charity, Essequibo Coast, after he was found to be in possession of 39 grams of cannabis.

On Monday, the case was heard at the Charity Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Tamieka Clarke, where two witnesses testified and the prosecutor closed his case.

Magistrate Clarke found the defendant guilty as charged, and he was sentenced to one year, six months imprisonment.
