Charity man, 35, charged with rape

Desmond George, a 35-year-old resident from Charity Housing Scheme, Essequibo Coast, was charged with rape and has been granted $300,000 bail.

The incident is said to have occurred on July 22nd 2023, at Siriki, Upper Pomeroon River, Essequibo Coast, on a female from the Essequibo Coast, according to a statement from the police.

The charge was laid under Section (3] (3) of the Sexual Offences Act, Chapter 8:03.

On Monday, 26th of August, George appeared at the Charity Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Tamieka Clarke, where the charge was read to him. The prosecutor objected to bail which was eventually granted in the sum of $300,000 with conditions that he would report every last Friday of the month to the Station Sergeant at Charity Police Station, starting tomorrow.

The case was adjourned to September 23rd 2024.
