`Creation of more job opportunities’
(As part of an ongoing series, Stabroek News is asking members of the public how they think oil revenues should be spent)
Lakhnarayan Bhagarathi, 23, of Skeldon, Upper Corentyne – “Guyana has a rich economy and little of all the different type of natural resources imaginable. With the discovery and extraction of oil resources, the Government of Guyana should consider and focus on the creation of more job opportunities to facilitate employment in all the different sectors in the country. With the online GOAL scholarship, which is a great initiative to benefit the citizens of Guyana, our country’s Human Resources are being constantly developed in the fields of technology, management and vocational skills. As a young Guyanese, I know many cases where there are young people who attained undergraduate and graduate degrees and are still unemployed. This in my opinion is one way in which our country is hindering its progress because we have skills and resource persons being benched at home and this should not be so.
“They should be able to use their skills and contribute to Guyana’s work force and its development. Additionally, to more job employment opportunities, it is necessary for our country to start giving its own people and chance and start to utilize its own people instead of resorting to outside persons. I am sure with all the educational opportunities that are provided, we have a more capable population that can advance Guyana through innovation and technological advancement”.
