Police Force hands out 179 bursary awards

Some 179 pupils who were successful at the recently held National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA) examinations, were on Wednesday honoured by the Guyana Police Force (GPF) at a ceremony held at the Police Officers’ Training Centre Auditorium, Camp Street, Georgetown.

For their outstanding performance, the top seven performers received special monetary awards. They are, Chiraneev Mohamed, Ayaan Ganesh, Jasmine Harry, Chantel Reynolds, Leah Gaul, Vaanaya Kooldeep, and D’Jaune Bourne. The sponsors for the special awards were the Guyana Police Force, Guyana Police Consumers Co-operative Society Limited, and the Guyana Police Co-operative Credit Union.

Deputy Commissioner ‘Administration’ (Ag), Ravindradat Budhram acknowledged the sacrifices of the parents who serve and their children who excel. He reminded the children of the importance of education, stating, “ Education is power, and the administration is committed to ensuring that you, our children, can have that opportunity.” 

Budhram emphasised that this bursary award is just the beginning of the Force’s commitment to these children’s education. He assured that scholarships will be available after they successfully complete their CSEC examinations, providing them with the opportunity to further their education at a variety of universities.

Education Officer and Ministry of Education representative, Tracy Crawford, who delivered the feature address, acknowledged the efforts and collective commitment of the awardees and parents, noting, “Education is more than just a pathway to knowledge; it is the cornerstone of progress and key to unlocking a brighter future.

Crawford encouraged the recipients to make the most of this opportunity and to pursue their studies with vigour as they enter a new school environment. She implored them to persevere through the obstacles and succeed. “Embrace every moment of education and learn from every experience.”
