Clarke bows out in Men’s 200m semifinal

World Athletics U-20 Championship

-Glen, Hinckson eliminated in heats

Guyana’s participation at the World Athletics U-20 Championships in Lima, Peru, came to a disappointing end amid a spark of hope from US-based Jackson Clarke, who stormed to victory in 21.37s in Heat 2 of the Men’s 200m to qualify for the semifinals.

However, Clarke could only place seventh in semifinal 1, clocking 21.88s, which was not good enough for him to progress. The semifinal was won by Australian Gout Gout with 21.07s.

On the other hand, Athaleyah Hinckson (24.39s) was fifth in Heat 3 of the Women’s 200m, while her compatriot Nalicia Glen (25.20) placed seventh in Heat 2 of the same event. Neither of the two did not book progression.
