Mahaicony held to draw by BV in East Coast football

Undefeated Mahaicony Lions were held to a 1-1 stalemate by Beterverwagting (BV)/Triumph when the East Coast Demerara Senior Men’s League continued on Friday evening at the Buxton Community Centre ground.

Marlon Burnett recorded the only conversion of the first half to give Mahaicony the initial lead as he found the back of the net in the 14th minute.

The conversion emanated from a passing combination as Burnett, upon receiving a pass outside the penalty area, rifled the ball into the far corner.

However, similar to the first stanza, BV/Triumph would earn a share of the spoils following an Akin Curry conversion, as they registered the only goal of the half.

Awarded a penalty kick following an infraction inside the penalty area, Curry, who was tasked with the responsibility, made no mistake from the distance as he blasted past the goalkeeper.

With the result, Mahaicony remain in fourth place on seventh points, while BV/Triumph climb to the eighth position on a point.

Meanwhile, Melanie and Victoria Kings played to a scoreless affair. The event continues today at the same venue with another doubleheader. Due to the outcome, the Victoria Kings move onto a point and remain in sixth place, while Melanie climbs onto a point and persists in seventh place.

In the opening match, Airy Hall will oppose Mahaicony at 18:00hrs, while Buxton Stars will lock horns with Haslington at 20:30hrs.
