‘One Guyana’ 3-Stage Cycling Championship set for October

The government of Guyana, through the Ministry of Culture, Youth, and Sport, will be initiating a three-stage cycling event titled the ‘One Guyana’ Championship.

The event, the brainchild of President Dr. Irfaan Ali, is tentatively set for October, just before the Guyana Cycling Federation (GCF) hosts the Caribbean Elite Cycling Championships.

In an unprecedented move, the One Guyana 3-stage event will see a first-place prize of $500,000 for the senior category, while the winner of the junior category will pocket $250,000.

The three-stage event is expected to see a leg in Berbice, tentatively the West Coast of Demerara, and potentially a time trial stage for the East Coast of Demerara.

While the finer details are yet to be hammered out, the One Guyana Three-Stage is set to be a game changer in the cycling fraternity with its attractive prize pool.

Additionally, in the coming weeks, the GCF is set to name the national team that will represent Guyana at the Caribbean Elite Championships.
