A 28-year-old man was yesterday sentenced to 18 months imprisonment by Magistrate Shivanie Lalaram at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court, for the offence of simple larceny.

Akeem Madison of Festival City, South Ruimveldt on August 18, 2024, at Middle Road, McDoom, stole motorcycle CN3874, valued at $340,000, the property of Christopher Jones.

The prosecution told the magistrate that the victim and the defendant are known to each other as they both work at the same place. On the day of the offence, Jones had retired to bed, and around 19:00 hrs, Madison entered his premises by jumping over a wall and removing the motorcycle and keys before escaping.

When Madison was arrested, he was cautioned, during  which he admitted to investigators that he stole the motorcycle. The magistrate then asked Madison about the location of the bike, to which he responded that the bike had been stolen from him.

Considering his admission of guilt and the prosecutor’s facts, Magistrate Lalaram sentenced Madison to 18 months imprisonment.
