The rain in Trinidad had the final say in Guyana’s CWI Rising Stars Men’s U17 Super50 campaign, washing out their final round match against the Leeward Islands.
While the Guyanese were sent into bat by the Leeward Islands, the latter only got to face 8 overs before the heavens opened up and ended the match.
The Guyanese were bowled out for 171 in 40.5 overs with openers Vickash Wilkinson (34) and Rampersaud Ramnauth (31) laying a good foundation for the side.
However, the rest of the batting line up squandered the good start from the openers and surrendered meekly in the face of ordinary bowling from the Leeward Islands. Only Romario Ramdeholl (23) would contribute anything further as Izrael Morton captured 3/44 (10 overs) to lead the way for the Leewards.
Micah McKenzie (2/24) and Jaheem Clarke (2/20) were the others to offer support to Morton.
In chase of 172 for victory, the Leeward Islands managed 35/1 before the weather had the final say.
The only wicket to fall before the rain came was opener Devanand Singh (8) with Tanez France (17 not out) and De-Antre Drew (0 not out) at the crease. Emmanuel Lewis grabbed the solitary wicket for the Guyanese.
Of the five scheduled rounds, Guyana only saw out one game, a three-run victory over the Windward Islands on Sunday, as the rain put a damper on the entire tournament.
