Aishalton man dies after stabbing in cemetery

An 18-year-old of Aishalton Village, South Rupununi, Region Nine, is in custody after he allegedly fatally stabbed a man during a dispute over a walkway on Monday at Aishalton Cemetery, Region Nine.

The victim, Julio Mandook, reportedly told his reputed wife whilst at the Aishalton District Hospital about what had happened before succumbing to his injuries later that day.

Inquiries revealed that on Monday, Mandook and others had gone to the Aishalton Cemetery at about 13.00 hours to build a tomb. They were also consuming alcohol. The men were digging sand from a walkway approximately 600 meters from the site where the tomb was being built.

The suspect said that he was heading home when he saw the victim digging sand from the walkway and warned him to desist since the removal of the sand would damage the walkway. This led to an argument that eventually escalated into a scuffle and Mandook was stabbed. The suspect then fled the scene.

One of the other men fetching the sand returned to the walkway and found Mandook bleeding from a wound to his chest and immediately rushed him to the Aishalton District Hospital.

Acting on the information received, police arrested the suspect.
