The police are investigating the death of Deryck Sattan also known as ‘Chowmein Man’ who fell from a mango tree in a yard at Fourth Street, Cummings Lodge on Tuesday

Sattan, a labourer resides with friends at Lot 18 Cummings Lodge, KV Scheme. His friend, Claude English, said that Sattan had left with a friend after lunch to go out but didn’t return. He was later informed by neighbours that Sattan had been pierced by a spike on a fence.

Leon Chandra, the friend who was with Sattan when the incident occurred, told  Stabroek News that Sattan was planning to go in the backdam, however, he told him he would like to pick some mangoes to make pickles.

At first they were outside of the neighbour’s yard picking the mangoes they could reach but then Sattan told him that the mangoes they had were not enough. So he decided to go into the neighbour’s yard, climbed the tree and proceeded to pick the mangoes. While he was descending from the tree with the mangoes in his hands, Chandra asked Sattan to toss him the mangoes he had in his hands, and while doing so his foot slipped and he fell on the spiked fence.

Sattan’s body is currently at the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
