Marlon Garrett appeared yesterday before Magistrate Faith McGusty at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court, where he was charged with possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.

It was alleged that on September 3, at Bourda Market, Georgetown, he had in his possession, 33 grammes of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking.

Garrett pled not guilty to the charge.

The prosecutor told the magistrate that the substance was found on the accused, and when he was arrested he told officers that he was using it for a “small hustle”. Garrett however, disputed this version of the events and told the magistrate that he had never made such a statement. Further, at the time he was at his girlfriend’s stall, where worked as a hairdresser. He stated that it was merely an issue of being at the wrong place at the wrong time because he had left his girlfriend’s stall to buy two bottles of beer when the police showed up and conducted a search of the stall where he was purchasing beers from. “Madam, it was just an issue of wrong place at the wrong time.”

The magistrate then asked if he had any other pending matters in any other court to which he admitted that he has an ongoing case at the Diamond/Grove Magistrate’s Court.

He also pleaded with the magistrate for leniency as his girlfriend is expecting a baby.

The prosecutor did not object to bail, noting the small amount of cannabis that was found and as such, the magistrate granted bail in the sum of $50,000.

The matter was then adjourned to September 25.
