Ryan Persaud defeated Mickeal Roberts by a 2-0 score when the 5th edition of the Rebel Junior Lawn Tennis Championship continued yesterday at the GBTI Diamond Court, East Bank Demerara.
Persaud secured a 1-0 advantage as he prevailed in the first set 5/4. He then clinched the result following a 5/4 (5) victory in the second set.
The tournament continues today with a tripleheader at the same venue. In the Boy’s U-18 division, Gerald Scotland will oppose Akil Semple at 15:00hrs, while Kimora Erskine will battle Melissa Goodman in the Girl’s U-18 section at 16:00hrs.
The final fixture will pit Hayden Chan against Fordyce in the Boy’s U-12 section at 16:45hrs.
The event will also continue on Saturday at the same venue. At 13:00hrs, Ricky Romascindo will oppose Matthew Jardine in the Boy’s U-18 division, and Elwyn Levius will tackle Rafeeq Prince in the Boy’s U-14 section.
Jose Rodrigues and Navindra Arjune will battle in the Boy’s U-18 segment, while Denzel Luthers and Christian Younge will face-off in the same division at 14:00hrs.
Erin Tucker and Niomi Erskine will then take centre stage in the Girl’s U-18 section. This will be followed by the Paula Kalekyezi and Jessica Grannum clash in the Girl’s U-18 segment.
The Boy’s U-12 division will bring the curtain down on the day’s play as Leo Gauto faces off against Michael Fordyce and Alexander Parkinson engages Prince in the Boy’s U-12 division.
