Shakeem David of Lot 37 Fourth Street, Alberttown, Georgetown, appeared before Magistrate Annette Singh at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court yesterday, where he was charged with larceny.
It was alleged that on August 27, at Hadfield Street, Lodge, Georgetown, while armed with a gun, he robbed Mark Ramroop of one Samsung phone, valued $100,000, one Apple laptop valued $135,000, and one motorcycle valued at $100,000, the total value being $335,000.
The prosecutor objected to bail, saying that this is not David’s first run-in with the law, and that he had a previous charge of larceny. In addition, mention was made of the seriousness of the offence.
David however told the magistrate that he had no previous charges.
The accused then asked to say a few words and told the magistrate that on the day in question, he was not present in the area where the incident occurred and that he was at his barber shop. He asked that the ranks go to the area to retrieve the footage from the cameras within the area to prove his innocence. As such, the magistrate ordered that the police retrieve the footage and make it available to the court on the next occasion.
Bail was refused and David was remanded to prison until September 27.
