Forty residents of De Endragt (Mon Repos-North), East Coast Demerara, received their Certificates of Title yesterday after nearly 50 years of living in the former squatting area.
The presentation was led by the Minister of Housing and Water, Collin Croal, on behalf of President Irfaan Ali. Agriculture Minister, Zulfikar Mustapha, and the Chief Executive Officer of the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA), Sherwyn Greaves also handed over some of the titles.
A release from the CH&PA said that the Mon Repos-North area was historically identified as a swamp land unsuitable for housing. CH&PA began regularisation of the area in 2010.
An occupational survey was completed for 67 lots in the area, and work is ongoing for the remaining lots.
This is part of President Irfaan Ali’s ‘Operation Clear-Up’ initiative, aimed to resolve outstanding regularisation matters nationwide, the release said.
