Twenty-three-year-old Elijah Martin of Middle Road, Sideline Dam, appeared yesterday before Magistrate Fabayo Azore at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court, facing two counts of armed robbery.

The charges allege that on August 6, 2024, at Russell Street, Charles-town, Martin, while in the company of others and armed with a gun, robbed Aqueena Allen of two gold chains valued at $437,000 and a gold band worth $20,000, with a total value of $457,000. On the same date, he allegedly robbed Carl Cummings of two gold chains valued at $400,000. Martin pleaded not guilty to both charges.

The prosecution objected to bail, citing Martin’s prior criminal history and highlighting the prevalence of the offence. The prosecutor informed the court that Martin had admitted to investigators that he committed the crimes and that there is strong evidence against him. They further argued that if granted bail, Martin may not return to court.

Given these concerns, Magistrate Azore denied bail, and Martin was remanded to prison until his next court appearance on September 21, 2024.
