Isabella Grannum, Alexander Parkinson, and Samara Siland recorded lopsided wins when the Smalta/Rebel Junior Tennis Championship continued at the GBTI court in Diamond, East Bank Demerara.
In the Girl’s U-12 segment, Grannum brushed aside Nandica Arjune 4/0, 4/2. She also defeated older sibling Jessica Grannum 4/2, 4/1 in the Girl’s U-14 category. In similar fashion, Alexander Parkinson blanked Ryan Persaud 4/0, 4/0, and crushed Mickeal Roberts 4/0, 4/1 in the Boy’s U-12 segment.
In the Girl’s U-14 division, Siland defeated Zenadya Lupuku in straight sets 4/0, 4/0. Meanwhile, in the Girl’s U-12 division, Lupuku defeated Arjune 1/4, 4/2, and 12/10.
In the Boy’s Novices section, Akil Semple bested Dequan Boston 6/3 in the quarterfinal round.
On Sunday at the same venue, the pair of Navindra Arjune and Nathan DeNobrega advanced to the final after defeating Elwyn Levius and Ricky Romascindo 5/7, 6/2, and 10/6 in the semifinal round of the Boy’s Doubles division.
On the distaff side, the team of Paula Kalekyezi/Erin Tucker crushed the pair of Christin Richmond/Kayesha Harding 6/1, 6/1 in their semifinal encounter.
In other results, Mickaya Roberts defeated Shane Bart 6/2 in the quarterfinal of the Boy’s Novices division, while Makaila Pierre bested Kalia Rocke 6/1 in the Girl’s Novices section. The event continues today at the same venue with another round of matches.
