Mahaicony Western Lions and Mahaica Determinators battled to a 1-1 stalemate when the East Coast Demerara Senior Men’s League continued at the Buxton Community Centre ground.
Mahaicony opened the scoring in the 20th minute via Leroy Halley. It was an audacious strike from Halley, who, upon spotting the custodian off his goal-line, lobbed the ball from the midfield area into the back of the net. This proved to be the only conversion of the first half.
However, it became a game of two halves, as Mahaica Determinators recorded the only conversion in the form of Julius Hamilton to restore parity to proceedings in the 50th minute.
The aforesaid goal emanated from the penalty mark following an infraction inside the 18-yard area. Tasked with the responsibility from the distance, Hamilton made no mistake as he thumped his effort past the goalkeeper.
With the result, both teams remain on eight points. However, Mahaica remain in third place owing to their superior goal differential, while Mahaicony sit in fourth position. The event continues on Friday at the same venue.
