Beginning today, workers under the Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development’s Community Infrastructure Improvement Programme (CIIP) will begin with the clearing of clogged drains and overgrown bushes in the vicinity of Garnett and De Abreu streets.
These arrangements were put in place by Minister of Local Government, Sonia Parag following a walkabout of the area last evening. A release from her ministry said that she was joined by People’s Progressive Party/Civic Councillors Alphonso De Armas and Steven Jacobs, along with concerned residents.
The Ministry of Public Works and the Guyana Water Incor-porated were also engaged to play their part.
Parag emphasized that even though Georgetown falls under the purview of the Mayor and City Council, government cannot and will not allow residents to keep suffering.
“We will do whatever we can, whenever we can, to prevent our people from feeling the constant neglect of the council,” Parag asserted.
