NA hospital doctor sustains head injuries in accident

A doctor attached to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital is now seriously hospitalized with head injuries after she was struck by a lorry outside of the hospital yesterday.

The accident involved Elizabeth Albares Nabaro, a Venezuelan, 32, a Doctor at the New Amsterdam Public Hospital attached to the Accident and Emergency Unit who resides at the Doctor’s Quarters located directly on the opposite side of the hospital along the main road and motor lorry # GAG 9366 owned by Clive Mangal of Essex Street, New Amsterdam Berbice, and driven by Orin Archibald, 35, of Timmers Dam, Angoy’s Avenue New Amsterdam, Berbice.

Based on information gathered, the accident happed around 7.50 am yesterday while Nabaro was attempting to cross the road from the hospital to the doctor’s quarters using the pedestrian crossing located outside of the hospital.

Police in a statement yesterday said that the motor lorry was proceeding east along the northern drive lane on the said road allegedly at a normal rate of speed while the pedestrian was walking proceeding east along the northern footpath.

It is alleged by the driver of the motor lorry that while he was in the process of passing the pedestrian crossing in the vicinity of New Amsterdam Public Hospital the pedestrian crossed the road from north to south on the said pedestrian crossing and the left side centre of the tray of the lorry collided with the pedestrian.

As a result of the collision, the pedestrian fell onto the road surface and suffered injuries to her head.

She was immediately picked up in a conscious condition by public-spirited citizens and taken to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital. She was eventually transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital.
