Senior Superintendent, Krishnadat Ramana has been appointed as the new police commander of Region 1 (Barima-Waini), and this became effective on Tuesday.
The police have provided no explanation but the change came a week after 4.4 tonnes of cocaine valued €176 million was discovered in the region that was headed by former police commander, Himnauth Sawh at the time. While the Guyana Police Force (GPF) is yet to make an official statement, Ramana told reporters on Tuesday evening in the Joint Services group that he is now commander of Region 1.
Sawh is now the Head of the Transport Workshop.
