CI, Sawpit, Windsor Forest record contrasting wins

Cornelia Ida (CI), Sawpit, and Windsor Forest recorded contrasting wins in the West Demerara Cricket Association-sanctioned GH Renovations T20 Championship.

CI dismantled West Coast Warriors by nine wickets. Taking first strike, the West Coast Warriors were skittled for a paltry 70. The experienced Seymour Evans offered resistance as he tallied 24 [3x4s]. The next best scorer was Amos Carlos with 21 [2x4s], as the other batsmen failed to reach double-digit scores.

The wickets were shared between the quartet of Khalil Mohammed, Ushadavera Balgobin, Richie Looknauth, and Akshay Persaud. Mohammed snared 2-11, while Balgobin bagged 2-7, Looknauth tallied 2-11, and Persaud grabbed 2-26.

In response, CI raced to 74/1 in 7.2 overs. Joshua Ferrell shepherded the chase with a belligerent and unbeaten 35 [5x4s, 1×6], with Shaaid Vieira contributing 24 [2x4s, 1×6].

On the other hand, Sawpit defeated hosts Zeelugt by seven runs. Batting first, Sawpit amassed 113/8 in the reduced 15 over affair owing to rain. Avinash Rameshwar top scored for Sawpit with 49 runs [3x6s, 3x4s], while the next best scorer with 22 [3x4s] was Terrence Singh. Adding 20 [1×4, 1×6] was Krishnanan Ragnauth.

Romel Jacobs was the primary threat with the ball, with figures of 4-16 in three overs. He was supported by Rajin Chrismotie, who snared 2-17 in his allotment. In response, the home side was bundled out for 106.

Tameshwar Dass top scored in a losing effort with a gritty 42 [4x4s], with Rajendra Ramjattan the next best scorer with 26 [2x6s, 2x4s].

Sawpit captain Imran Khan was the primary threat with the ball, as he recorded impressive figures of 4-22 in 2.5 overs.

Meanwhile, Windsor Forest defeated Zeelugt North. Batting first, Zeelugt North was dismissed for 138 in 18.1 overs.

Mark Gonsalves anchored the batting effort with a top score of 42 [4x4s, 2x6s], with extras being the next best contributor in the form of 41 runs.

Stephon Johnson also supported with an unbeaten 22 [3x4s], whilst Nouram Ganesham chipped in with 17 [2x4s]. Left-arm spinner Kishaun Tracy was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 4-25 in his four-over spell, while Lalta Suknanan assisted with 2-29.

In reply, Windsor Forest raced to the target in 11.2 overs. Chatram Nauth top scored with 38 [4x4s, 1×6], while Deoram Chanderbir proved ample support with an unbeaten 34 [4x4s, 1×6]. Suknanan also chipped in with 15 runs. In terms of the bowlers, Stephon Johnson recorded 2-12 from two overs.

According to the organisers, the event will not be staged this weekend owing to persistent rainfall, which has made the respective venues unplayable.
