Guyana’s winless run at the 45th edition of the Chess Olympiad in Budapest, Hungary, continued as both the women’s and men’s teams incurred defeats in the Open Division.
The women’s team lost their second encounter 1-3 to Palestine. Aditi Joshi recorded the only win for the Guyanese in the event, as she bested Yara Faqeeh in the third round. However, Guyana has recorded losses in the first, second, and fourth stanza.
Jessica Callender went down to Eman Sawan in the first round, while Sasha Shariff lost to Taqwa Hamouri in the second fixture. Desiree Clement lost in the fourth round to Wajd Natsheh.
In their opening match, the women’s team lost to Denmark 0-4. Callender lost the opening fixture to Sandra De Blecourt, while Shariff was defeated by Ellen Kakulidis in the second round. In the third stanza, Joshi was defeated by Susanne Guindy, while Sofie Bech bested Clement in the fourth round.
Meanwhile, the men’s team went down to Jordan 3.5-.5. Candidate Master (CM) Taffin Khan lost to Al Khatib Ahmad in the first round.
However, FIDE Master (FM) Anthony Drayton drew with Sameer Loay in the second stanza. Guyana then lost in the third round as Loris Nathoo went down to Malek Saif, while Keron Sandiford was bested by Khwaira Anas.
