A Venezuelan woman, Katiuska DeJesus Carias, appeared yesterday before Magistrate Fabayo Azore at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court, where she faced deportation proceedings.
The court heard from a representative of the Guyana Immigration Service that Carias had failed to present herself to the Chief Immigration Officer on March 14, to apply for an extension of her stay in the country. The immigration officer stated that the last valid documentation for Carias covered the period from January to July, but she had not applied for an extension before it expired.
