(Trinidad Express) A Cunupia mother and her daughter-in-law perished in a fire yesterday.

According to information from the police, around 11.00 a.m. Richard Daniel of Persad Avenue, Mon Plasir Road, heard screams emanating from the house of his neighbour Nizam Ali.

Daniel, who observed a fire emanating from the western side of Ali’s home, alerted other neighbours and ran across to the home where he met Jeremy Ali, 29, who indicated to him that his mother Angela Ali, aged 54, and his wife Ambika Ali, 30, where trapped in the house.

With assistance from Daniel and other neighbours, Ali (J) was safely extracted from the home but they were unable to get to his mother and wife.

FSSO Mundoo and a team of fire fighters from the Chaguanas Fire Station put out the blaze, upon which the charred remains of Angela and Amrika Ali were found within the gallery of the northern side of the house in a prone position.

The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
