45th Chess Olympiad…
After suffering back-to-back losses in the opening two rounds, the Guyana Men’s and Women’s teams rebounded in fine fashion with victories in round 3 of the 45th Chess Olympiad currently being staged in Budapest, Hungary.
The Men’s team of Candidate Master (CM) Taffin Khan, FIDE Master (FM) Anthony Drayton, Sachin Pitamber and Keron Sandiford came up against regional neighbours Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and dispatched them 3.5 -0.5. Khan saw off Chinedu Ememchukwu while Drayton defeated Brian Cottie with Sandiford drawing against James Schneider. Pitamber meanwhile got a win against Oris Robinson.
On the distaff side of things, the quartet of Jessica Callendar, Aditi Joshi, Treskole Archibald and Sasha Sharif got a perfect 4-0 win against Grenada. Callendar led the way with a defeat of Chitan Bernel, Sharif saw off Achazia Lewis, Joshi got her second win of the Olympiad against Rockisha Flanders while Archibald defeated Naziyah James. The women’s next opponent will be Guersney while the men will face Palestine.
