Belle Vue man dies after car crashes into fence at Cottage

A car yesterday morning crashed into a fence and careened into a utility pole on the public road at Cottage, Mahaicony, resulting in the death of one passenger and injuries to three others, including the driver.

Dead is Collin Dowden, 28, of Lot 2 Belle Vue, West Coast Berbice.

The incident involved motorcar, PJJ 2006, driven by Shakeem Booker, a 23-year-old from Seafield, West Coast Berbice.

Enquiries revealed that the car was proceeding east along the Cottage public road at a fast rate when the driver lost control and ended up on the grass parapet. The car crashed into a concrete and mesh fence and uprooted a utility pole. As a result of the collision, the driver, and three occupants – Ron Robertson, 36, of Number 42 Village, West Coast Berbice; Tyreece McDonald, 17, of Seafield, West Coast Berbice, and Dowden sustained injuries about their bodies.

They were taken to the Mahaicony Public Hospital, where Dowden was pronounced dead on arrival. The driver and two other occupants of the car were treated and transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital.

Dowden’s body is at Bailey’s Funeral Home where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
