A storm which began at about 4 pm yesterday in Sand Creek, Region Nine, has left several homes without a roof with the occupants having to be temporarily housed in the village guest house until repairs are completed.
According to villagers, the tempest lasted for about 15 minutes. Alex Augustine, the village toshao yesterday told the Sunday Stabroek that no injury was reported but in many homes, important documents had been destroyed by the rain.
Augustine explained that the storm which saw strong winds, heavy showers and thunder and lightning, had blown off the roofs of nine homes. Additionally, 13 more homes had some of their roofing sheets peeled off by the winds. As of yesterday, the village council had relocated the badly affected persons to the village guest house, while the necessary repairs to the affected homes have already begun.
According to the toshao, it seems likely that the rain would continue last night.
