GCA 2nd Division 2-Day
Thomas Lands neighbours Malteenoes Sports Club and Guyana Defence Force (GDF) squared off yesterday as action continued in the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA)/Friends of Cricket 2nd Division 2-Day competition at the Malteenoes Ground.
The visitors took first strike after the hosts won the toss and sent them into bat. GDF compiled 276/8 before declaring, with Joshua Jones’ lower order 68 pushing them to a decent total. Jones 68 came off of just 41 deliveries and included three fours and seven maximums.
Up front, Rockael Reddy scored a solid 51 while his opening partner Leon Andrews got 37 as the duo set a steady foundation.
Other GDF batsmen got starts as well but could not quite kick on. Hakeem David (27), Jamal Chisholm (27 not out), and Kemar Ferreira (32) all got decent scores.
Leading the way for Malteenoes bowling was Kaysie Schultz, who snared 5/62 from his 14.5 overs. Shaquille Moseley (1/52) and Shemroy Barrington (2/39) were the other bowlers to get in among the wickets.
In response, by stumps, the hosts reached 57/3, losing three early wickets and still 223 runs adrift of GDF’s total. They lost openers Adrian Hinds (0) and Collis Rimple (11) cheaply, while Moseley was adjudged LBW to Jones, who continued to have a good all-round game. In fact, Jones also accounted for Hinds earlier, and his quick strikes put GDF slightly ahead heading into today’s action.
Shemroy Barrington (22 not out) and Tretlon Liverpool (18) will resume Malteenoes innings today.
