The Guyanese Open and Women’s teams produced a bag of mixed results when action in the 45th edition of the Chess Olympiad continued yesterday in Budapest, Hungary.
In the Open Category, Guyana, whose team comprised Candidate Master (CM) Taffin Khan, FIDE Master (FM) Anthony Dayton, Keron Sandiford, and Sachin Pitamber, went down to Palestine, a day after they had made light work of St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Meanwhile, the women’s quartet of Jessica Callendar, Sasha Sharif, Aditi Joshi, and Ciel Clement drew with Guernsey 2-2.
Callendar and Sharif went down to Arita Strade and Gerda Nevska, respectively, while Joshi continued her impressive run of form with a win over Julie Denning. Clement’s defeat of Marie De Carteret levelled things for the Guyanese women, who now have a win, a draw, and two defeats in their first four rounds.
Next up for the women will be Malta in round five, while the Open team will face Jersey.
