A 37-year-old miner of Campbellville, Georgetown was arrested at a wake for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
According to a police press release, at about 01:25 hrs yesterday, ranks arrested Jamal Rollox after he was found to be in possession of an unlicensed Smith & Wesson 40 pistol, which contained 10 live rounds of 9 mm ammunition.
The release said police ranks were at the time monitoring the wake for the late Lawrence Wayne, called ‘Boy Boy’, which was being held at Dynasty Bar on Aubrey Barker Road, Georgetown, when a detective saw Rollox discharge several rounds in the air.
On seeing the police, Rollox allegedly threw the firearm under a parked car, the release said. Police retrieved the gun and arrested Rollox. When asked if he was a licensed firearm holder, he said no and was told of the offence committed and arrested.
Rollox was taken into custody at the East La Penitence Police Station, where the firearm and ammunition were marked in his presence, placed into a gun evidence box and lodged to be taken to the ballistics section for analysis, the release said. He is slated to be charged.
