The longstanding National Schools Championships will now be held in March of 2025 with an overhaul of the previous system.

After initial objections from the Guyana Teachers Union (GTU), the Ministry of Education has decided to do an overhaul of the well-known National Schools Championships, effective immediately.

In an exclusive interview with Stabroek Sports, Nicholas Fraser, Head of the Allied Arts Unit within the Ministry of Education, acknowledged that while there were some misgivings over the Ministry’s proposals, there has been positive feedback since then, and with the approval of Minister of Education Priya Manickchand and Chief Education Officer (CEO) Saddam Hussein, that change is now set to be implemented.

Fraser revealed that, as per usual, all schools across Guyana will carry out their inter-house sports during this term. However, there will be no inter-zone meets at the district level, but instead, there will be an inter-school meet in every education district (14 in total) across the country.
